Thrusting myself upon my pen...

and writing the words with my own blood. The words have been difficult in coming this week. I'm ten pages ahead, three scenes, but it's quality not quantity that counts. I usually wait until the muse hits me which is why I so frequently come up against writer's block but since I had so much free time while my friend was at work this week, I applied my butt to the seat and stared at the computer screen. I got through several low key scenes so next up an action scene. It's always the low key stuff that's so hard to write.

Mattie has just gone through the process of taking custody of three children from child welfare by claiming to be a distant relation when in fact she was responsible for them becoming orphans in the first place. The children, ranging in age from 4 to 14, have been in foster care for about a month after the violent death of both parents in a car bomb explosion, which all three children witnessed. Mattie has her hands full dealing with an angry, rebellious 14-year-old boy only interested in seeking revenge, a 10-year-old wiser-than-her-years girl fiercely protective and possessive of her 4-year-old baby brother who hasn't spoken a word since his parents grisly death. Being only 26 herself, she hasn't a clue how to be a mother when all she's ever known is the life of an assassin. She not only has to deal with having her life interrupted by three children, she has to give up her lucrative "job", deal with her own guilt and hide the fact that she was the one who murdered the children's parents. Her simple quiet well-organized life is about to be turned on it's ear. Ah...fiction, it's it grand. Look ma, and you thought I'd never make much of myself with my head in the clouds.

Speaking of head in the clouds, I'm flying back to Atlanta tomorrow (Saturday). The weather forecaster calls for gusty winds today and tomorrow so I'm in for a bumpy ride, at least out of the Vegas airport. We're headed to the casino tonight so it will probably be a late night and everyone suggests I be at the airport three hours prior to my flight so it'll be an early morning and I still have bags to pack, so the next time we chat it'll be from Georgia.
