My Award

Lucky Seven!

I realized I had several comments pending approval on my blog and lo and behold, my friend and fellow writer Pam Asberry gave me this award!

This award came with strings attached, however. First, I must tell you seven things about myself; then, I must extend the award to seven others. Here goes.

SEVEN THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT ME

1. I've never been "in love"

2. I feel as though I've already met and lost my soul mate, never having a real chance with him

3. I can't listen to Sugarland's songs Baby Girl or Just Might (Make Me Believe) without crying. I met Jennifer and Kristian at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, GA about two weeks before they went to Nashville to record their CD Twice the Speed of Life. I'm overcome every time I think about them and their "overnight" success and it makes me believe it can happen to someone like me too.

4. debilitatingly shy and small talk is excruciatingly difficult for me so I tend to ramble a lot or people mistake me for being snobbish

5.  I feel as though I missed out on my childhood so I'm living it now. I've surrounded myself with stuffed animals, love animated movies, love Winnie-The -Pooh, Eyeore, Tigger, Snoopy, Tink, Taz, Mickey, comics, etc.

6. I'm a clepto when it comes to pens (I'm a writer and I have to have something to write with)

7. I absolutely love Christmas but I'm usually broke and without a beau so I tend to be severely depressed around the holidays. (and my birthday is the 26th so I only have the holidays to look forward too all year long and for the most part, everyone forgets my birthday which doesn't help the depression)

MY SEVEN AWARD WINNERS

1. my friend and "believing mirror," fellow writer Ryan King at www.celestialmountains.com check out his poetry, it's fantastic.

2. my brother Bill. He's the one person in this world I most want to be proud of me since I am most proud of him.

3. my nephew, William. Next to my brother, I hope that he'll be proud of me when he gets bigger. He's my pride and joy.

4. my friend and published author Valerie Storey at www.valeriestorey.com for her inspiration and groundedness

5. my friend and former coworker Deborah for taking a stand for her morals and not backing down

6. my friend and published author Russell Hill at www.thegodmanifesto.com for his inspiring messages, his teaching, his programs, his non-profit work, his tireless effort, his example and proof that it can be done, and his friendship

7. my friend and fellow writer Pam Asberry at www.pamasberry.blogspot.com for commenting on my blog and letting me know someone out there is reading this thing and inspiring me to write more.

I know I don't say it enough but thank you for all you've done and for all you continue to do.

Thanks Shawn! Since my page isn't a blog I'm not sure how to pay the award forward but I certainly appreciate the honor.

    Hi Shawn,

    Thank you for the award!

I feel like a I know you better now; your post was refreshingly honest. I have several thoughts in response but will elaborate on only one here, the concept of soul mate. You said you thought you had already met and lost your soul mate without ever having a real chance with him. Well, I believe we have many potential soul mates. I was so sure that the first man I ever loved (and I fall in love easily) was my soul mate; alas, he did not love me in return. I just knew my life was over. But I have been in several solid relationships since then, and at least a couple of those men were soul mate material. For various reasons, the relationships did not work out. But I remain optimistic. I *WILL* find a soul mate, and we will live happily ever after. I hold onto that belief, and it helps me. And I believe it applies to us all, if we remain open to the possibility.
